I’m going to see another play of Teater Koma. For those of you who never experience the year of 1978, this Dasamuka story had been played for the first time 27 years ago in Jakarta Art Centre TIM and UI Rawamangun Campus. However, the authority banned this satire parody on power during that time, and did not allow further plays in universities in Bandung, Yogyakarta and Surabaya for there was a Normalisation of Campus Live. With this policy, the military was entering the campus to stifle students outburst for pro-democracy. It was the first prohibited play of Teater Koma.
This year, once again, Teater Koma presents this play in the era of freedom. In her 105th play, three actors playing the same role as they did in 1978 on Maaf.Maaf.Maaf. Syeful Anwar as King Dasamuka, Embie C. Noer as Puppeteer and Priyo S. Wienardi as Bandem Prahasta.
Once upon a time, there were one family live peacefully in the palace. But one day, Ario (head of the house hold) feels that he is the King Dasamuka. He refers everyone as a character of wayang performance and they become worried although they thought he was just having a dream. The play reminds us on the arrogance of the authority that is dictatorial and brings harm to ordinary people.
