National Resurgence Day

If you haven’t read the letter from the State Secretary, Pratikno, as Chairman of the Committee for National Day Celebration and Reception for Invited Head of Government/Head of State/Heads of International Organizations, dated May 13, 2016 you can read it here. It was signed on Friday last week, and according to a colleague who also a staff member at the Secretary General’s office, we haven’t received the (physical) letter until the end of business hour on Friday. In short, the letter is in relation to observing the 108th National Resurgence Day commemorated on May 20th. Heads of State’s Institutions, Ministries, Chief of Indonesian Army, Chief of Police, Attorney General, Governor of Bank Indonesia, Heads of Government Agencies, Governors, Regents, Mayors, Heads of State-Owned Enterprises, as well as Heads of Indonesian Embassy or Representatives’ Office abroad are encouraged to observe the Day and held a special flag-hoisting ceremony on Friday, May 20, 2016 or in accordance with local conditions and situations in their respective location. Further, in order to celebrate the Day, all are encourage to wear batik clothes from May 16 to 19, 2016.

Today I see that not all wearing batik. The virtual letter went viral in social media on Sunday, and at that time, some already had their uniform ready for Monday. And some who knew about the letter were just too lazy to switch to batik. Most of my colleagues are welcoming the idea of wearing batik today because our uniform is just unappealing and uncomfortable to wear. There even a statement that when we wear our uniforms, we’d better not go and have our lunch at the cafeteria for we would be bathed with sweat while waiting for the food we ordered.

Anyway, I do not remember that National Resurgence Day also went through similar process as the Independence Day of August 17. It has its own implementation guidelines, which consists of the background, purpose, and working theme, which this year is “Carving the Meaning of National Resurgence by Bringing into Reality the Indonesia’s Real Work, Independence, and Character”. Such a long theme. And we also have a logo for that. The following are some activities that the Government invite us to share through http://kebangkitan-nasional.id, namely:
1. The Ceremony on May 20, 2016;
2. Seminar and Interactive Dialogue;
3. Heroes Cemeteries’ Visit;
4. Social events
5. Coordination, publications, and documentations.
